NXP Semiconductors Goes “Live” with Anaqua’s IP Management Solution Portfolio management and global web-based collaboration to enhance NXP’s IP strategy and execution

Boston, June 21, 2007 —Anaqua, a leading provider of intellectual asset management (IAM) software and services to global companies, and NXP Semiconductors have completed the roll-out of ANAQUA5.5 to support NXP’s global IP management. This new version of ANAQUA includes significant enhancements to modules for inventions, patents and portfolio management. The business, technical and legal value of each IP asset can now be captured throughout its lifetime and used to drive the most effective patent strategy by applying pre-set filing plans.

With NXP investing around €1 billion in R&D annually, the company is one of the leading innovators in the industry.  Effective management of the IP portfolio is crucial to ensuring that the company translates this investment into commercial returns.
When NXP separated from Philips, the IP group was faced with the challenge of migrating from the sophisticated in-house IAM system developed and used by Philips. For economic reasons, the decision was made to move to a commercial IAM system and the Anaqua solution was selected.

“ANAQUA has the IP portfolio management capabilities we need as well as advanced Invention Disclosure and Review processes so that we can align our IP investments with our corporate development strategies,” said Hans Pennings, Senior Vice President, Intellectual Property and Licensing, NXP Semiconductors. “The ANAQUA system’s online collaboration capability will allow our law firms around the world to update cases directly and communicate with us electronically, which will allow the IP team to efficiently handle a high volume of activity.”

Because of the separation from Philips, the IP system migration had to be completed within a tight deadline during a time of major organizational change. Nevertheless, the project was completed on schedule and went live at the end of May.
According to Hans Pennings “With Innovation Centers in Austria, France, Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, UK, India, Singapore and China and a portfolio of 25,000 patents, the challenge was huge. Despite this I have never seen a more successful IT system implementation project. It is a tribute to the whole team – NXP, Anaqua and Capgemini.”

“We’re excited to welcome NXP into our growing community of innovation leaders,” said Paul DiGiammarino, CEO of Anaqua. “We put a strong focus on our methodology for successful client implementation and it is very pleasing to see it works so well under time pressure.”
