World IP Day: "Innovation – Improving Lives"

by Bob Romeo, CEO of Anaqua

Anaqua Celebrates Innovation Around the World

On World IP Day, we celebrate the innovators who are improving people’s lives across the globe.

In the fields of health and nutrition, energy, engineering, telecommunications, transportation and many other technology sectors, we applaud those individuals and organizations who are making a difference – from developing new ways to enhance our daily lives to finding solutions to the world’s greatest challenges.

At Anaqua, we are proud to partner with such incredible innovators, helping them to bring their ideas to fruition and to manage the complexities of the innovation process – from conceptualization, through evaluation and protection, to monetization. Our IP management software and services enable corporations to gain true competitive advantage from their IP assets, while helping IP law firms to distinguish their IP practices and create a competitive edge.

Anaqua was founded by some of the world’s most innovative companies and IP leaders. So, IP is ingrained in our DNA. We understand the needs of IP professionals – and how to make a difference in their lives by enabling them to work more efficiently, to save them valuable time, and to reduce costs.

Here are three ways we are improving the lives of IP professionals through innovation in today’s digital age:

1. Integrating IP Management Systems

We pioneered the development of integrated IP management systems, creating the first unified platform capable of managing and automating the full IP lifecycle of patents, trademarks, designs, trade secrets and contracts. We call it The Business IP Platform. It combines insights from big data analytics with critical tools, best practice workflows and services into one efficient, intelligent environment that helps IP professionals align IP strategy with business strategy (and vice versa), and enables them to make better, more-informed decisions faster.

Our technology leadership has been driven by a culture of customer engagement and empowerment, through which our customers have a direct influence on product development in line with their changing requirements and priorities. As a result, our functionality is shaped by expert practitioners. Our workflows, taxonomies and templates have IP expertise built into them.

2. Bringing IP law firms closer to their clients

Anaqua is an innovator in the legal industry because our technology is bringing IP law firms closer to their clients, making it easier for them to communicate and collaborate on all their IP matters. At the same time, as clients increasingly look for cost savings, our integrated technology platform is helping law firm IP practices run more cost efficiently, enabling them to retain clients and protect margins.

We live in a world of big data, a world where big decisions rely on an ability to access, analyze and manage data. Patent analytics tools are unlocking new insight from over 100 million global patents and 1 billion related data artifacts. With Anaqua’s software, IP professionals can not only see who’s filing patent applications, but they can also assess the quality and cost of the patents. In-house practitioners can use such information to compare the performance of different law firms; while smart law firms can use the same data to help differentiate their services from competitors.

3. Helping Customers in More Ways

With the strong backing of our investors, we have been able to further enhance our support for customers by broadening our service and product offering – both organically and through acquisition – and by expanding our geographic presence. Over the past 18 months or so, we have acquired innovation management solution provider ideaPoint; AcclaimIP, the industry-leading patent analytics software solution; patent search tool Free Patents Online; and Patent River, one of the most comprehensive sources of patent prosecution data in the IP industry.

The AcclaimIP acquisition was made just days before World IP Day 2016. By August, AcclaimIP was already integrated into our Anaqua 8.6 software, becoming the first IP management platform to infuse the entire process of creating, protecting and monetizing IP with analytics delivered to the right user, in the right format at the right time. Leading market analyst firm Hyperion Research commended it as “one of the fastest platform integrations” they had ever observed.

In December, Hyperion Research named Anaqua as a “Market Leader” in their authoritative industry report on IP Management Systems for corporations, affording special recognition to our innovation lifecycle management, decision support analytics and uniquely integrated patent drafting. Hyperion said that the Anaqua story is one of “demonstrably higher ambition”, adding that the company “continues to lead and innovate with a powerful toolkit to drive IP as a business”. Earlier this month, in a new report on IP Management Systems for law firms, Hyperion also rated us as a “Market Leader” and “Highly Innovative” for our IP practice management solution, Anaqua Essential.

Moving Forward

The Anaqua story will continue to develop apace in 2017, fueled by our same high level of ambition, innovation and industry-leading expertise. Our recent appointments of industry experts Christine Jennings as President of Anaqua Services and Karen Taylor as General Manager for Asia Pacific have further strengthened our international management team; and, in the year ahead, we will be expanding both our product offering and global reach. Our dedicated staff have worked tirelessly to perfect our products and our approach to market, which has enabled us to bring on board an impressive array of new clients, including Analog Devices and Molson Coors Brewing Company.

As an industry leader, we are highly active and visible within the IP sector. In 2017, we will attend over 20 IP and technology conferences from Beijing to San Francisco and our footprint will cover more than 600 clients in 150 countries. As we continue to grow our portfolio of next-generation IP solutions as well as our global customer base, Anaqua will support an increasing number of innovators in an increasing number of ways, helping them improve lives across the world.
